Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Facials
Q : Can I wear makeup to my facial appointment? What about after?
A: Yes, you may come in with makeup on. We use a double cleanse process. We pre-cleanse to remove makeup, oil, and debris. This allows us to deep clean with a cleanser specifically chosen for your skin. After your facial, you may choose to apply makeup, but most choose to leave their skin fresh.
Q : Am I going to break out after my facial?
A: If you are receiving a facial to help get rid of acne, your Esthetician may use products that help pull acne, oil, blackheads, and bacteria out of the skin. In the process of pulling them up, it might pull deep acne to the surface. Depending upon the amount of acne, a few facial treatments may be necessary to have a clear face.
Q : How far in advance should I get a facial if I have an event?
A: We like to make sure there are no allergies or sensitivities to products, so if you have not received a facial with us before, usually 1-2 months before your event, and then a week before. Please inform your Esthetician that you have an event coming up at both appointments.
Glycolic Peels
Q : What is a Glycolic Peel?
A: It is a buffered Glycolic Acid that we apply to your face just like a mask. We use between 25 - 70%, based upon your sensitivities, and amount at previous treatments. It helps slough off dead surface skin, leaving the skin underneath, vibrant and healthy. This also helps increase your cell turnover which slows with the aging process. It can be intense.
Q : Will I be red after my Glycolic Peel?
A: At the most, it may leave you slightly pink. This should diminish by the end of the day, and you can almost always return to daily activities with little to no recovery time. Makeup may be applied right after.
Q : Can I go out in the sun after a Glycolic Peel?
A: It is recommended that you stay out of the sun for at least 48 hours, and wear a broad spectrum sunscreen daily.
Q : What is the difference in the Glycolic Peel and Microdermabrasion?
A: Both treatments are designed to slough off dead surface skin, to reveal the bright, healthy glowing skin underneath. The difference is the way in which they exfoliate : Glycolic Peel is a chemical exfoliant that breaks the bonds between the dead skin cells, and washes it away when the glycolic acid is removed. Microdermabrasion is a physical form of exfoliating where a rough, diamond tipped tool is slid across the skin, sloughing off dead skin, and sucking it through a suction tube in the middle of tool.
PCA Peels
Q: What is a PCA peel?
A: PCA skin peels improve skin concerns: acne, hyper-pigmentation and aging. These challenging skin concerns are improved with peel formulas by increasing the skin’s cell turnover rate, bringing new skin cells to the surface, reducing signs of fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots and clearing breakouts.
Q: What is the after-care instructions for a PCA Peel?
A: Stay Cool! Heating internally can cause hyper-pigmentation. Do not put treated area in hot shower spray. Do not use hot tubs, steam rooms, or saunas. Do not go swimming. Do not participate in activities that would cause excessive perspiration. Do not use any exfoliation methods. Do no use hair dryer on treated areas, or ice / ice water to treated areas. Do not tan or pull on loosening flaky skin. PCA Peels are designed to correct and treat specific skin care concerns, and not abiding by these guidelines may hinder that. You will be give 2 weeks worth of skin care products to assist in taking care of your skin after.
Q: Should I expect to peel?
A: You should not expect to "peel". However, light flaking in a few localized areas for several days is typical. Most guests have residual redness for 1-12 hours post-procedure. You may also go home with product on your face, I would recommend planning on going home after.
Dermaplaning
Q: What is Dermaplaning?
A: Dermaplaning is a method of exfoliation that consists of using a 10 gauge scalpel to gently scrape off the top layer of dulling dead skin cells (and facial hair) in order to reveal a smoother, brighter complexion. We also use an enzyme peel to remove any left over flaking skin. This process makes your skin very smooth.
Q: What age is Dermaplaning recommended for?
A: 18+, ideal for anyone concerned about fuzz on their face or dulling skin.
Q: Doesn't it make your hair grow back more coarse?
A: It does not, the method is done at a 45 degree angle and does not come back thicker or darker.
Microdermabrasion
Q : What is Microdermabrasion?
A: Microdermabrasion is a machine that uses a combination of a fine abrasive diamond tips and vacuum suction applied to the skin. As the tool is ran over the skin, it sloughs and sucks up dead skin. This helps increase the cell turnover rate in your skin which slows with the aging process. When it slows, it results in dulling skin.
Q : Will I be red after my Microdermabrasion?
A: At the most, it may leave you slightly pink. This should diminish by the end of the day, and you can almost always return to daily activities with little to no recovery time.
Q : Can I go out in the sun after a Glycolic Peel?
A: It is recommended that you stay out of the sun for at least 48 hours, and wear a broad spectrum sunscreen daily.
